Hybris CD Review – Midlands Rocks

This is the Latest Review of Hybris from the Midlands Rocks websiteRonin - Hybris EP

Ronin are Loz Crame (Guitar/Backing vocals), Kit Kinrade (Vocals/ guitar), Dave Whittaker (Bass), Jake Howarth (Drums). Worcester is producing some fine young bands just now and these are no exception.

Without You is bluesy, funky, with powerful harmonies, instantly memorable and made for radio. Taking Back the World has delectable guitars, a song hard to describe but I love it. Fly Away is classic pop rock with a unmistakable groove, it has all the hallmarks of a summer time hit, light and lively, catchy and one you can easily sing along with, Musically Sophia Loren reminds me of U2, but with gentle retrospective vocals, making it distinct and different. Fields has such sweet vocals and a catchy hook, I often find it is going round in my head, its that infectious. Another Song About Her is filled with emotion but it also rocks.

Ronin write songs that have sophistication, the lyrics and melodies are very mature for their age and they are innovative enough to find unusual instruments to give them different sounds. Vintage synths and theremins augment the guitars, drums and bass. It makes them stand out and sound really original. The only thing I would say against this EP is that it is too polished and is missing the real soul to Kit’s voice that I know is there in live performance. A minor flaw and one I would be oblivious to, had I not also seen them live.

Hybirs Can be bought Digitally on Itunes, CDBaby and many more.
